Stand Together

For Grant’s whisky

It was the year of the world cup in Brazil. We'd arrived at Grants Whisky's brand idea of 'Stand Fast' and wanted to find a moment or popular culture to populate. Sir Geoff, Gordon and Archie had a tale or two to tell about sticking to your values, knowing where you come from and the power of teamwork.

Mummadadda knows the power of sports to unify and excite people. We have no strong allegiance to any club, but it would be a soulless individual who didn't feel a little fluttter of the heart over the world cup. In order to bring the new 'Stand Fast' positioning to life, we dreamed of getting Sir Geoff Hurst to talk about what made him. Not just those legendary three goals, but how he was brought up. where he first played and the inspirational role his father played in making him the man he became. He was totally charming and utterly mesmerising. Looking down at those feet casually planted on a dressing room floor at Chelmsford FC, where he started out, it was hard not to marvel at the magic that had come from them in 1966. Sir Geoff and his story is an inspiration to us:

Gordon Banks was there in 1966, too. A few days later we jumped onto a train to film him at Sheffield, the first football club in England. Gordon arrived in a cab and it was magical watching the young players go silent as he stepped out of the car. Liek Sir is a total gentleman and got straight into the goal with those big hands, not even flinching as the ball launcher fired a ball at him at 90mph. Sport is a tough business. Life is long. But having principles can carry you through with honour. Gordon's story is inspiring:

And just because Scotland have boycotted Putin's 2018 world cup doesn't mean we shouldn't feature the very wonderful Archie Gemmill. Mummadadda will never forget walking into a pub in Paisley, in the protective halo of Archie G. A gentleman and a legend. And a great night as we launched the Paisley FC veterans club for Grants Whisky.
